How much icing does it take to cover a cake? size 13x9 inches?
Answers:
Please, please, please make this from scratch instead of buying a can of frosting. (But if you think of a can of frosting, that's the amount you'd need to frost a cake.)
Below is the link to TONS of icing recipes--100's of them! It depends on the flavor of the cake which frosting you would use.
Here's a nice basic chocolate frosting recipe:
BUTTER CREAM FROSTING
3 tbsp. softened butter
1 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
2-3 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
In small bowl, beat butter. Add powdered sugar and cocoa alternately with milk; beat until smooth until a smooth spreading consistency is achieved. Blend in vanilla.
Bon appetite!
Other Answers:
From 1/2 to 3/4 cups, depends on the thickness of the icing you want to use.
