Everytime I make instant mashed potatoes, whether I cook them on the stove or in a casserole dish in the microwave, they end up tasting like the dish they were cooked in. What's up with that?

I've never had this problem. I would recommend making them on the stovetop in a glass pan if you have one. It may be the brand you're using. I make Betty Crocker garlic and herb, they're great. Good luck!

btw, how do you know what your dishes taste like? LOL

add a pinch of sugar, or some other taste try sour cream in them.

Throw more of seasoning and ingredients in it than what's called for to cover up the taste - extra butter, a little extra milk, salt, pepper, a little garlic, a little parmesan cheese. They kind of taste like cardboard to begin with unless you spice them up.

I've made instant mashed potatoes before, but never had them taste like my dish! Try adding something into them, like garlic and herbs or sourcream! Also, what brand of instant potatoes are you using? That may have something to do with it! Maybe also buy new pans, they may be causing the potatoes to absorb the taste! Good luck in your next batch!!!

I've not had this problem. Typically I put the flakes into a casserole dish or mixing bowl, add the water and I usually add other ingredients to bring it up a notch, but it always tastes like mashed potatoes. I'm wondering if it's the brand of potatoes you're using?

just boil some real potatoes that will solve your problem. it will only take a couple of minutes

well, first off, fresh mashed potatoes are the way to go, they really don't take much more time than instant. However, I suggest maybe getting new cookware. If your old pots and pans have the outside coat coming off, that could effect the flavor. It may also be the way you store your taters. If you leave the box open in a cabinet or pantry, it can pick up tastes and odors from the air and surrounding foods. Last, but certainly not least, the culprit may be the one who is doing the dishes. If you hand wash your pans, you may not be cleaning them well enough, or if you stick 'em in a dish washer, you may have to run them through again or simply get a stronger dish washing detergent. hope I could help.

thats not right
