Okay, I'm making this eggless eggsalad for the first time and it calls for tumeric. My previous roommate left her spices for us to use, but she never labeled the containers.

I need to know what the spice looks and smells like. Thanks again.

Answers:
To make sure your eggless salad turns out the way you want it to be I suggest buying the spice from the store but here is something I found on the web.

Tumeric
Lightly aromatic, turmeric smells peppery and fresh with a hint of citric. It tastes bitter and musky. The turmeric root is a relative of the ginger plant. It is used all across Asia for it golden color.

Goodluck.

Yellow, but not often used by itself.

A very fine orange-yellow powder. Doesn't have much of a smell. Okay whats the point of eggless egg salad? There is not even a remote chance that it will taste good.

Tumeric is yellow. Tumeric Powder
Tumeric (Curcuma longa), perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae), the tuberous rhizomes, or underground stems, of which have been used from antiquity as a condiment, a textile dye, and medically as an aromatic stimulant. In biblical times tumeric was used as a perfume as well as a spice. In the Middle Ages it was called Indian saffron because of its orange-yellow colour. The rhizome has a pepperlike aroma and a somewhat bitter, warm taste. It is the ingredient that colours and flavours prepared mustard and is used in curry powder, relishes, pickles, spiced butters for vegetables, in fish and egg dishes, and with poultry, rice, and pork. In parts of Asia tumeric water is applied as a cosmetic to lend a golden glow to the complexion.
