Every recipe that I have for the slowcooker calls for dark meat chicken. None of us like dark so is it okay to substitute for white meat and use the same cooking time? Also can I use raw chicken or am I supposed to cook it all the way first?

Answers:
It's ok to use white meat but what you might want to do is is add something with a bit of body to the soup. Like browned sausage or a smoked meat to give whatever you're making more substance. White meat tends to taste good but it adds very little to whatever medium it's in. I would prefer you use raw chicken. If you leave it in fully cooked it can become stringy and tough in a broth or thinner solution. By leaving the chicken raw you're allowing all the available flavor in the chicken to come out into the food. If you cooked it that flavor would most like be lost to the pan or water that it was cooked in. You never want to waste an ounce of flavor if you can. Unless you were planning on using that water in whatever you were making. In that case you would remove any protein from the broth (usually that white stuff that floats to the top) and then reduce it.

Other Answers:
dark or white is ok, and yes use raw, slow cook for 6 hours

Use raw and yes you can use white meat. White meat should be ok, but keep in mind that the dark meat gives off the most flavor for soups and stews etc.

You can cook raw chicken in a crock pot, but it takes a long time. i like to either cook it half way on the stove or boil the water beofre i pour it into the crock pot.

Yes, you can use white meat in your crockpot. 6-7 hours should do it. Have you ever considered a Presure Cooker? I use one almost exclusively. Chicken meals take only about 15 to 20 minutes at 15psi. Roasts, 1 to 1 1/2 hours and they are ALWAYS tender. It does not matter what cut of meat you use. You could cook shoe leather and cut it with a plastic fork!

Been cooking for a bunch of years. You put everything in a crock pot raw.
The longer and slower you cook it, the more tender and yummy it will come out.

yes, you can cook raw chicken in a crockpot I do it all the time start the night before you are going to serve it I start on low then up it to high check the chicken
I ALSO USE A CREAM OF CHICKEN OR spaghitti sauce
add vegs to your liking
and potatoes
thank you White meat is just better I say. Uncooked white chicken dice it while icy if you want, easier to cut. Remember to wash where you cut the chicken with bleach and gee, enjoy your dinner
