I have a recipe that calls for shredded parm. cheese, but all I have is the grated kind in a container (the type you sprinkle on your spaghetti). Can I use that in place of the shredded parm. cheese? If so, how should I measure it different- more, less than shredded?) Thanks.

Answers:
It's true that it will change the texture, but I've used it before when I've been out of the other. I've always used the same amount. Depends on what you are cooking.

Other Answers:
It won't give you the chewiness of shredded

Of course, you can use grated parmesan cheese.
USE WHAT YOU HAVE ON HAND!

you can always put the shredded parm in a food processor or your blender and make it more grated. Shouldn't matter too much in taste, I would use equal amounts It depends on how you are using the "parm" cheese if it is to top a dish, just sprinkle on to cover if the recipe calls for a measured amount (i.e. a cup) then the shredded cheese has more bulk, and I would use less.
