Answers:
Today, I am a great cook, (if I may say so myself) and an avid cookbook collector.
However, that was not always the case. In my early 20's, I could not cook, at all. My Mother-in-law gave me my 1st cookbook, (I think she was worried about her skinny son).
The cookbook she gave me was Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book. Even with the extensive collection I have today, it is still the first one I turn to, when I need to know something. My copy is copyright 1950, and with duct tape and all, it has rarely failed me in 27 yrs.
My collection also contains;
Betty Crocker's Cookbook New and Revised Edition, copyright 1978
Other Answers:
the joy of cooking, betty crocker. there are lots of them out there. but you have to know what you are looking for. are you looking for one for easy but great meals? or are you looking for something with great meals, with a lot of prep to them?
Source(s):
experience.
Personally, I would submit The Fannie Farmer Cookbook. It contains nearly everything a cook needs from appetisers to desserts. The Appendixes and Index section contains information on beverages, menues and table settings, as well as information about the makeup of our foods. The notes included with some receipes are an extra. There are also updates to prior edition receipes. From inexperienced cooks to gourmet cooks, this book is the cook's best friend.
Betty Crocker, I have 2 of them. Makes for great food
