I always forget how much water you need for a cup of rice...

Answers:
I make brown basmati rice frequently. First I rinse it (I don't bother soaking) then I mix it with one part rice to two parts water.

1 cup rice + 2 cups water
1/4 cup rice + 3/4 cups water

You get the idea. Pour the water and rice into a heavy-bottomed pot with a good-fitting lid and cook on a low heat for 35 minutes. Don't lift the lid!

Other Answers:
Okay.

1 - Turn your on HIGH. Way above broil.
2 - Throw the box of rice (box and all) in the oven.
3 - Call the fire department
put it in the microwave
First, soak 1 cup of the rice in cool water for 30 minutes.

Take 1 1/2 cups of water lightly salted, and bring to a boil. Add the drained rice to the pot and bring back to a boil, stirring gently. Cover the pot and cook for 20 minutes. Remove from the element, fluff with a fork, recover and let sit for another 10 minutes. Ta da!

You can also add things to the rice for flavor if you wish. I like adding a few cumin seeds to the water at the same time as adding the rice. You can add a bit of butter once it's cooked as well.
Pre boil the rice in just bout 3 cups of water. Then strain and put in oven for steaming. Check very 15mins depending on how soft you would like the rice...This is for 1 cup rice..Don't forget to add salt in when pre boiling the rice..
1.) Get a medium pot
2.) for 1 cup of rice, rinse at least three times,
3.)then simply put it on your stove high, until you you see the rice getting puffy but not TOO puffy.
4.) Then drain teh water in a strainer.
