Mother! Same thing is true with me. I remember when I was little my mom would ALWAYs open the box and check if any were broken. now i always do it! haha
Pretty sure Mom showed me that one, but after you take home some broken and/or cracked ones you learn to check yourself !!
I'm the same way. When I was a kid, that was my job on a grocery shopping trip. I pushed the cart and checked the eggs.

My parents taught me. I learned from observing them as a child.
I don't know what to do if they are broken, it's never happened to me.
Knowing me, I'd either actually track down a sales associate and tell them or (if I'm in a rush or cannot find one) put them obviously out of place (but still in refrigeration) so someone would be all "Hmm, what the hell? That seems strange, let me grab another box". I might also tell the check-out clerk. They might not care, but it's worth a shot.
My mom. But now not only do I check for the broken ones, I check the date on the end of the carton too. I don't remember my mom doing that though.
My mother got me doing it lol and Yes I move them to the side if they are broken so the next person knows not to pick them up.
