Yes, saffron is available at many supermarkets (even those unworthy of being called "super"). Be warned: It is the most expensive spice I have ever seen, over $14 for a bottle with only a few threads in it.
Saffron can be obtained from the commissary for substantially less (under $7).
Walmart carries it for about $14.00. You can also try Mexican saffron by Goya which will be a whole lot cheaper. I have used both.
Most do that I know of. Sometimes you have to go up to the customer service counter and ask. I got a good deal on saffron at BJ's a little while back, believe it or not.
