i just bought i pie and im cooking it in the oven and it told me to put aluminum foil around it......does it really matter???

Answers:
it will help to keep the crust from getting too dark. no one wants to eat burned pie :)

Other Answers:
Only if it has just come out of the oven and you want to retain the heat.
no, don't worry about the foil! especially if you bake it in a glass dish.
I only put foil around the edges of the pie to keep it from getting too brown. Remove about 10-15 minutes before the pie is done.
You don't have to but it helps the crust edges cook more evenly and not overcook before the rest of the pie.
No need for the foil...just put your pie in the center of the oven and you'll be fine!
put it around the crust edges to prevent over cooking crust (doesn't take good at all)...i don't take it off while cooking, it will still turn colors, just not over cook
It is so the outer rim of the crust doesn't burn. You can use foil or they make a ring to go around a pie made of metal that actually works better. Either way the house should be safe and save me a slice of pie!
What it is referring to, probably, is the crust.

You can take thin strips, like 2" wide of aluminium foil and fold it loosely around the pie's crust edge. Just enough to cover the crust's edge. Does not hav eto be tight at all or even touching crust.

This will prevent it from burning or getting too dark before the rest of the pie is finished baking.

You can start baking the pie and watch the crust, when it gets to the color you like, then add the foil and continue cooking the pie following the directions.

No, it isn't necessary, but will help from the crust getting too dark and dried out.

It does make a difference and helps, normally.

You can even buy pre-made pie covers that you can simply place on top of pies that do the same thing. If you don't feel like bothering with the foil and will bake pies frequently. Most grocery stores carry them. They look like a metal frisbee with the center cut out.

Good luck!
Take a little milk and brush it on the edge of the crust. This will slow down the cooking of the edge and keep it golden, not burnt. If it starts looking a little too brown half-way through cooking, then brush on some more. Also, you may want to put a pan on the rack below the pie to catch any run-off. It's a real pain to clean-up otherwise.
I always put aluminum foil around the crust part of the pie only... if you don't the crust tends to burn.

From experience: I've baked a pie with out aluminum foil and burnt the crust
the aluminum prevents the top of the pie from burning faster than the rest of it. what you can do if you don't want to do that, is to lower the tray in the oven, and then lower the temperature. you might have to bake the pie longer though, at lower temperatures.
Don't cover the entire top of the pie...just the outer crust around the rim/edge. The foil is to prevent it from burning.
