Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(ground cumin substitute?),it will help you,my kids.

What spice can be used if I need ground cumin and don't have any?

Answers:
Oh! What a tragedy!!! I always have plenty of cumin around the house...it is my favorite spice!!!

The only thing I'd suggest is to either up your chili powder amount or substitute caraway seeds. INHO there really is no substitute for cumin, but this would be my suggestion. Good luck!

Other Answers:
Really depends on what you're making and the flavor you're after..If you have any packaged taco seasoning, that normally has cumin in it amongst other seasonings, but could be substituted, will have a slightly different flavor

Well I just stuck my head out of my office and asked all of my Indian chefs if they didnt have ground cumin what would they use and the general consensus was that:Chef we wouldnt run out of cumin!
So I put it another way and said what if there was a world shortage! to which they answered no chef there is plenty!

Then they said cumin seed!

Its a long story...and very painfull!!!!!

However!!! I have now got the answer!
cumin is cumin there isnt a substitute!!!

I trust my chefs they are very good at what they do!(which is not to run out of cumin)

maybe coriander seeds?
