Canola oil (Crisco, Wesson, etc) will last about a year at room temperature after it's been opened. Smell it first - you should be able to tell if it is rancid.

Another contributing factor to spoiling oils is light. If it's been in a dark pantry, it will last longer than if it's been on the counter exposed to light. Personally, I try to buy olive oil in dark bottles or wrap them with aluminum foil to make them stay fresher.
