Do I need to boil it first before I bake it?

Answers:
40-45 minutes, at 400*. No, you don't NEED to boil it first.Some people do this to speed up baking time, but it gives the potatoe a different texture then if it's actually baked from the beginning. PS Be sure and poke some holes(for ventilation)in it first, with a fork.

Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork.

MICROWAVE METHOD

With a fork or sharp knife, pierce each potato 2 or 3 times. Place potatoes in a circle on a paper towel, leaving a 1-inch space between each potato. Cook on HIGH for 15 to 20 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork, turning once during cooking and removing any that are done after 15 minutes. Let potatoes stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

4 small russet potatoes
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoons kosher or sea salt, plus for seasoning
Freshly ground black pepper
1 bunch chives (about 1-ounce)
1/2 cup sour cream
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 slices bacon, cooked crispy, and crumbled, optional garnish

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Toss the potatoes in a bowl with the oil, salt, and pepper until completely coated. Place on a baking sheet and bake until fork tender, about 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, bring a small pot of water to a boil and salt it generously. Fill a medium bowl with ice water. Put the chives in the boiling water and cook until bright green, about 30 seconds. Immediately, plunge into the ice water to set the color. Squeeze all the water out of the chives and give them a rough chop. Put into a blender with the sour cream. Pulse until you have a smooth green sauce and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Chill until ready to serve. (Or, thinly slice the chives and stir into the sour cream, season with salt and pepper, to taste.)

Cut the potatoes lengthwise and then across. Pinch and press the sides to open the potatoes. Divide the butter among the potatoes and serve with the sour cream. Garnish with crumbled bacon if desired.


This is a fast and easy way to cook a baked potato, and I think tasts great. With a fork punch holes all around the potato. Put in in the microwave for 1 min, then take it out of the microwave for 1 min. Put it back in for one min, then take out for one, put it back in for 1 min. Basicly you are cooking the potato for three min. This is great for a fast dinner, or even bringing it to work for lunch. 1 hour at 400F. you don't have to boil it.
