As a food rice is low in fat and (compared with other cereal grains) in protein. The miracle rices have grains richer in protein than the old varieties.
This is referring to the types of rice grown for human consumption. Not to be confused with genetically engineered rices for pharmaceutical and animal use.
There's a big controversy about the effects on the food supply should these genetically altered food stuffs cross pollinate. Please read the links for better information than can be given here.
