This is strange butit works. You can not do times jut estimates b/c coals/propane burn different. This is what I do:
Rare: Touch the staeak and if it feels like your earlobe
Med: The tip of your nose
Well: Your chin
Thickness Rare Medium Well Heat
1" 8-10 12-14 16-20 High
1 1/2" 10-14 16-20 22-26 High
2 12-16 18-22 24-28 Medium
