I'm 21 and i've been a vegetarian for about 10 years. I've never had any health problems, but im starting to realize i should balance my diet a little more, especially when people ask me how i get my protein and i dont know what to say. I eat a lot of rice, beans, indian food, vegetables, some tofu...but whats a good way to get all the nutrients needed? Are there any good vegetarian vitamins?

Answer:
www.veganessentials.com has supplements that are all vegan so you don't have to read labels for hours at the health food stores. www.veganoutreach.org for info on what vegetarians should be concerned about healthwise. No outlandish claims on this site, just well researched stuff.
if you really want to add protein being a vegetarian, soya is best option. You can try soy milk to get enough protein in your diet. I have been vegetarian since my birth.
you know im not sure there is! but you can get b12 vitamines they are good for a protein and other sorts! try centrum silver complete! it has everything in it you could need!
Sounds like you have a pretty good mix going. Just make sure you're eating a good protein source everyday, not just every now and then. As you mentioned, beans and tofu are good for this. Soyproducts, chickpeas and nuts are also options, and if you're lacto-ova vegetarian you can get protein from eggs and milk as well. Consult a doctor for more info, getting a well balanced meal is the most important thing.
You can not get protein in a vitamin pill unfortunately but tofu is a good source of protein same with
chickpeas
mushrooms
eggs
milk
yogurt
soy
Soy bean is about the best protein source for vegetarians. It has lots of the important amino acids that you need, but you should also include other beans and a few types of seeds and nuts in your diet.
It sounds like you are getting plenty of protein. Beans and tofu are very good protein sources. I don't know if you eat cheese but that is also a good protein source. It is very possible if not easy to get all the nutrients you need from a vegetarian or vegan diet. But I guess if you are worried about it you could always get a vegetarian multi-vitamin that is packed with all the nutrients that your food may be lacking.
The question is are you weak. If you are weak you need to get some protein in you quick. Eat a chicken or something. Chickens are a very good source of protein. And since you've not eaten in 10 years you will notice a rush of strength and power and energy like never before.
Beans are an excellent source of protein. Judging by what you eat I would say you are doing just fine.

Food Science of Vermont makes a vegetarian vitamin that is excellent..."Superior Care Vegetarian".
It sounds to me that you get plenty of "protien". It's a huge MYTH that only animal flesh offers us protien.
As for the vitamins go to The Vitamin Shoppe they have Vegan ones. & the prices are very good.

It sounds like you're doing great! A lot better than I did in high school/university LOL Most of the veggie meats are enriched with all the vitamins vegetarians need. Go to your local drugstore and just read the ingred's of the vitamins to find one that's suitable (there are some!). A good thing to keep in mind, is that every meal you eat should have a ratio of carbs, proteins and fats (50:35:15) - all these things work together and help your body digest every nutrient. I think a lot of vegetarians (myself included) tend to get in ruts where we eat nothing but pasta or rice for week (maybe longer!) or we just eat ONE of something for our meals (carbs usually). You don't always have to have separate side dishes, but if you're making a casserole or stiry fry, try to keep that ratio in mind. You might want to pick up some B complex vitamins or B12 if you don't eat eggs. Also, iron might be a good idea too. Fortified breakfast cereals are great. Stick with your beans and Indian food, there are reports out now that too much soy can affect your health so it's best to keep it in moderation. Pick up some Ensure or Boost (chocolate tastes great!) and protein powders if you're finding it difficult to get enough protein, or you're into something like weight training.
Everything has protein...even veggies so if you are eating enough of beans, lentils and whole grains, you sound like you are right on track.
If you're eating whole grains, beans and other legumes, tofu and dark green veggies, you're probably getting plenty of protein.

Schiff makes a vegetarian formulated multivitamin. We can't take most major brand of multis because the nutrients may be from animal sources or they may have animal byproducts in them (gelatin in particular.)
