I really don't like to eat meat for ethical reasons. However, I find that after a couple of months with no meat, my hair starts falling out. When I was 17, I almost lost it all for awhile, but now I know it's time to start eating meat again when it starts thinning, and then it's okay again. The strange thing is that I'm Not vegan, so I do drink milk and eat cheese. Why do you think this happens? How can I change my vegetarian diet to get more of what my hair needs to keep it from falling out?

Answer:
Lack of vitamin B12 can cause hair loss. Studies show that 60% of vegans show a lack of vitamin B12 to some extent. It can also be a problem for less extreme veggies. It is impossible to naturally get B12 from anywhere other than animal products. If you take supplements or fortified foods that can help, but the real thing is best.
Even if you're not a vegan, it can still be a problem. It really depends on the way your body works. Eating meat would probably solve it, supplements may help too. Eating more milk and cheese might well prevent it too, if you don't eat that much normally (even if you do eat a reasonable amount, eat more, it's probably best if you don't want to eat meat).
you're not getting enough protein. eat more nuts
nope iv been a vegitarian for a year and my hair hasnt fallin out and im 11
no, I was a vegetarian for 6 years. I didnt have this kind of problem. You gotta have a balance nutrition.
Are you sure that your hair loss is meat-related? Whether I eat meat lots of meat or don't eat meat, my hair falls out...and I take plenty of B-vitamin supplements...drink milk...take minerals...you name it.

Perhaps our problem is that we aren't absorbing the vitamins. Of course, if you color your hair, that could be another reason why you might be losing hair.
it may actually be that you're not getting enough fat in your diet.Your body needs fat for your, nails, and skin complexion.did you notice if you got pail,if you did you probably weren't getting enough fat.I eant nuts and use olive oil and eat peanut butter to get fat in my diet.
I'd see a doctor. Not eating meat should not make your hair fall out.
lack of protein, and vitamins. take more vitamin tablets, and eat more protien i.e. nuts, lentils, and mung beans
You will probably find that it is down to the fact that you are lacking Iron. ( and possibly zinc )

You can find these in other non meat foods:
If you want to test this theory inexpensively take a couple of tea spoons a day of molasses mixed with hot water.
