Ok, I%26#039;ve been vegetarian for a week now. I feel great, and am really liking it. The only problem is that...I now have really bad, odorous gas! All the time! Is my body just adjusting, or will this never end? Help!
answer from chineseop.com cooking QA
It will go away :) I%26#039;ve been a vegetarian for 5 years, and i once tried to get my boyfriend to try it out for a week. He wouldn%26#039;t stop complaining about this, but i was eating the same foods and i was fine because i was used to it! I thought it was pretty funny.
You should be taking B12 supplements. Naturally, B12 comes from bacteria and this bacteria can be found in the intestines. It cannot be absorbed into the body from the intestines, though, so you need supplements! (Some think this is why herbivore animals eat their own poop.) Meat is richer in B12 because the animal eats food that is contaminated with it (or the bacteria was living in the animal%26#039;s intestines). Your body and the bacteria need to adjust to a plant-based diet.

I%26#039;m not a doctor, but I would suggest that the simple answer is to consult one. We all know the jokes about beans - has that largely been your diet?
Becoming vegetarian is a risky business as you are denying your body (if you%26#039;re not careful) a lot of essential proteins and vitamins. Try getting a balaced diet plan from a qualified medical practitioner.

The same thing happened to me, it will go away. Your body is getting rid of all the toxins and crap in your body and the flatulence is caused from your body not used to breaking down the food. I eat fruits and veggies all the time and rarely have gas. After you eat them for a while, it goes away.
answer from chineseop.com cooking QA
certain foods cause a lot of gas - particularly beans and broccoli. Our stomachs cannot digest some parts of them, and bacteria in our intestines do it for us. Their waste is the gas... so since you%26#039;re eating more foods that aren%26#039;t easily broken down in the body - you%26#039;ll be having more gas. Not sure if that will go away?? You may have to take pills like others suggested.

lol I know what you%26#039;re talking about. It%26#039;s your body adjusting. Meat is actually addictive, so when you give it up your body may or may not undergo some transitions. It%26#039;ll pass. Just remember to keep eating right and stay strong.

Your body will adjust. Try Beano. Seriously. You%26#039;re not used to digesting the legumes. Soy especially is notorious for being gas-producing.

keep eating as you have been and the gas will eventually go away. Your body is adjusting to the higher fiber and more beans etc.
answer from chineseop.com cooking QA
your body is probably just adjusting to all the new food%26#039;s you%26#039;ve been eating.
