Answer:
It takes commitment, and alot of work.
You will have to do alot of research first, not just jumping in on it. You have to know what you are doing, making sure you are getting all the nutrients you will no longer be getting from meat. It is going to be tough, you will have to convince your parents that being a vegan is a healthy lifestyle. It wont be easy, but if you make a well- informed argument from a health point of view(not ethical) because all your parents really wanna know is that you are healthy.
You will have to train yourself to read all of the ingredients in your food before you eat it, you have to be forgiving with yourself. Because it is really hard if not impossible to live a "completely" vegan lifestyle, unless you are making ALL of your own food, and knowing exactly what is in the things you make it with. You just have to educate yourself to the best of your ability and try to live your life as vegan as possible. You can't beat yourself up just because you ate something with milk in it, You have to just live and learn.
Good Luck, and even though becoming a vegan is hard, you will thank yourself for it... You will be healthier, happier, and you will not be supporting animal cruelty.
Is like faith. A personal choice. And to be able to stick to it, you have to be convinced is good for you. Have you read everything about. Are you sure this is for you?
I am not one by the way. I do it here and there.

Go for it anyway. You can get books on it from the Library.. leave them around where your family will see them. You never know you just might get an ally even if You don't your family will at least know You Know what your doing by the books.. be sure to read them too! Being a Vegetarian is the healthiest thing a person can do for oneself.. I didn't always think this way... I useto be totally opposed to vegetarianism. Vegetarianism has made me alot healthier.
Like anything else it's got to be done in the right way! Vegetarians should really eat more Fruit than Veggies!
Get all the information you can, read up and learn. I tried Vegan once but couldn't do it. Remember if you cannot do it try vegetarian first and then switch over time, that is what I am doing.

Good luck, find support in message boards if your family doesn't support the decision http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/... is a great website that can help.
Vegan is a complete life choice ..you not only give up all meat , dairy , honey , animal products as leather , fur, wool, silk , any products containing animal ingredients and /or tested on animals .. you would against any form of animal exploitation or cruelty .. Your family may not understand at first ..mine didn't either ..but 8 years later my first of two sisters went vegetarian , then 2 years later my second sister did .. and a few years after me both went vegan ...my parents have almost cut out meat entirely and my last 2 sisters are meat eaters(although much less then they used to be) but cook a lot of vegan for family get togethers and such ..I just had to wait it out ..but I read , researched ,took courses ..educated my self in every way and answered their questions as best as I could regarding other animals, their treatment and impact on man as well .. It was probably the single BEST decision I ever made .. I was 15 when I went vegetarian , 25 when I went vegan .. so do whatever you feel comfortable with .. and what feels right to you .. It is wonderful being Vegan ...but even starting vegetarian is great .. and you never know maybe some family members will think it over too ..
the fact that your family is even involved in your decision making tells me you still live at home, correct? i don't think you can or should expect your family to go vegan for you. by that, i mean don't think your parents are going to want to pay a lot of extra money for you to enjoy thinks like vegan bread, etc. also, don't expect them to prepare separate meals as a sign of their "support" of your decisions. you will need to prepare your own meals and incurr a lot of the added cost, which may be more work than you are able. are you vegetarian now? perhaps you could begin by giving up dairy and eggs if you haven't already - that way you could test the vegan waters so to speak :)
It's like most things if you want to do it you can but you have to want to do it. Heres a free starter kit for ya.
