Answer:
Pineapples, you may be surprised to find, grow on top of the plants, nestled in the spiny leaves. They are the fruit of a low growing plant called a bromeliad and look for all the world like some kind of joke--like a jackalope or those spaghetti trees they show every April Fools Day.
Fields of pineapple plants look like the spiky moussed and twisted hair of a punk rocker. The fruit's name comes from the resemblance to pine cones that European explorers noticed, along with the slight apple flavor the early fruits had. You can of course have a go at growing your own!
Cut the top off a fresh Pineapple. Dry it out,til it looks pretty dead. Plant in good quality soil, and, in a while, it should shoot new growth! Water little and keep warm. Two years later, you will have your own Pineapple!!
In the centre of a small bush like plant
THEY GROW OUT OF THE GROUND, THATS WHY THE BASE HAS A SMALLISH MARK....i used to think they grew on trees so i looked it up.

Something I learnt on Magnum PI, when he had to run through a field of Pineapples.
The grow in the centre of a cactus like (but the flat leafed type) bush that has spiked edges to it's leaves.
Hawaii used to have fields and fields of them - according to Magnum at least.
Oh yeah, I can discuss macadamia nuts as well, as Higgins did the commercials for Mauna Loa.
