Especially if you are losing weight/ maintaining a healthy weight. When I was one, I wasn't very healthy, that's why I ask. I'm thinking about becoming vegetarian again but in a healthier way.

Answer:
I just started my "get healthy" diet--again. I have fruit for breakfast, around 10am I have a granola bar, then for lunch salad (go easy on the dressing) and either soup or a veggie turkey sandwich or wrap with veggies and hummus. Fruit for snack around 3pm, then dinner I make stir fry veggie sandwich or wrap with salad. Be sure to watch all the fat that can hide in oils, butters and cheeses. My problem is cheese, I love it soooo much but it is so high in fat. The important thing is iron--not protein. Take a daily multivitamin that contains iron and you'll be okay. Also, flax seed oil is a good daily supplement to get your omega-3's.
well, meat has tons of protien so incorperate protine into your vegan diet! Beans, and fish(if u can eat that) work great. Heck, even peanut butter has protein! Check lables and also look for heathy calcuim products. Look in the phone book too, you might find and organic grocery store!
i was vegan for seven years i went to allot of co-ops and read allot of labels its allot easier being vegetarian-hence you can eat dairy which will widen your range of options in this category.you need to first think of your daily vitamins your body needs to work with and then your protein and what u can substitute for it since u wont eat meat any more there are allot of good brands i liked morning star the best for vegetarian's cause uses no meat products but uses some dairy in some of there substitutes there are fake every things out there from chicken to beef you should check your local co-ops on all your options and don't just stick with your normal food-mart near you cause your options on substitutes will be limited and you wont get all the nutrition your body needs
I am vegetarian, when I was pregnant I became very ill, I had to eat meat for the baby's sake, I hate milk so I drank it when I was Pregnant too. Now that I am not, I am back to my old ways of being a vegetarian, I really hate meat anyways!! I eat cheese, and make a really good olive lasagna. I make my own pizzas too. There are a lot of things you can eat as a vegetarian, just make sure that you are eating beans, peanut butter, or tofu that has a high content of protein so you do not get ill again. It is hard to get used to some of the flavors of these things, but you do and you love it. I try to drink milk, but I really prefer to drink almond, rice, or soy milk. I am almost vegan, but I do eat cheese and I use eggs to cook with. I do not eat eggs plain though, even when I was young!! I really still have to read labels though for pork and pork products as well, since I am also Islamic. So my kids are not vegetarians, but they can eat no pork or pork product such as geletin or lard. So if you buy things like refried beans, be sure to get fat free or vegetarian, because the regular ones have lard in them which is an animal by product. That is if you care, I have to watch it for my religion as well as vegetarian ways! I hope that this helps!! Good Luck!!
Well, Pringles, cheese, and ice cream fit all too well into a lacto-vegetarian diet, so that was my mistake the first time!

Less junk, less packaged food, more food you make yourself, that's how I'm doing better now. Tonight I had roasted squash topped with fried sage (gonna serve that on Thanksgiving--MMM!), broccoli with pine nuts, and brown rice. I eat a *lot* of rice.

My lunch was tabbouleh and two *thin* slices of cheese on a whole wheat tortilla.

Tomorrow night I'm making my infamous peanut butter and chile stew, which is tons better than it sounds.

I've become a much more adventurous eater since cutting meat out of the equation--I eat lots of Indian, Middle Eastern, and Greek food.
I'm vegan and the doctor says I'm healthy as an ox.

Here's a typical day:

BREAKFAST: bowl of cereal w/soymilk, fruit
LUNCH: Peanut Butter sandwhich on whole wheat, salad(spinach or romaine lettuce, tofu or beans, carrot, broccoli, onion, peppers), more fruit
SNACK: peanuts, carrot sticks
SUPPER: potato, curried chickpeas, salad or mixed cooked veggies
SNACK: fruit, oreo thinsations(the 100 cal. packs), popcorn, or some more veggies if I'm feeling really healthy.

Consulte a doc if you're really concerned with getting all of your required nutrients. Some bodies need more of certain nutrients as well(I need extra iron, which I suppliment with vitamins), ask a pro for the real info.

Good luck!
