The amount of land it takes to feed a cow could feed twice or three times as many people as the cow! As overpopulation continues to be a problem you will see cows get phased out of existence anyway.
ps Chickens are not dumb at all! They only turn cannibal in the high stress factory settings that we put them in. They are extremely maternal and kind in a natural setting. They will care for each other and abandoned babies of other breeds as if it were their own! However they are supposed to exist in small family groups, much like humans. Ever look at the murder and suicide rates in overcrowded cities? The same happens when you lock a bunch of chickens up in little cages so tightly crammed that they have to cut off their feet and beaks to make them fit!! It is no wonder they go crazy!!!

Symbiosis is not the relationship we have with them - it's parasitic. If we stop breeding them simply to take the pleasure of killing them, then there will be no issue. As for the ranchers who make their money off kiling them, they can convert their land to a different type of farming, or sell it and do something else, or run non-death vacation dude ranches.
