Just been making an internet shopping order, some wines are labled "Vegertarian and vegen, how do they get cirtified as such?.
How common are animal products in other wines?
Answer:
some wines use eggs and gelatine as clarifying agents. Only the ones clearly marked as vegetarian are vegan do not use animal by products. I think its more common in the cheaper wines. Cheers! Can I come and have a glass with you when your order arrives, pretty please?

The wines that have animal products are the ones that had bugs on the grapes when they made the wine!
Sometimes things called 'finings' are used to improve the clarity of wine, beer etc. They can be made of many things including fish bones and blood
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/finings...
Some fish products are used in the clarification process for most wines.
Some wines are cleared using gelatine or isinglass from a fish's swim bladder. Buy the Co-ops Fair trade range of wines or Check out the list of beers, wines and spirits that Sainsbury's make that are vegan:-

Unless its approved by a society, its a self-certification system, you are relying on trust. If it says "veggie" , i trust it
Animal products are in about 90% of wines.
95% of whites, and 80% of reds from my expereince.
The animals are fish bladders, ground bones and sulphites.
The wine industry often refers to "charcoal" fining". This is actually not charcoal, it jsut looks like it - it is burnt ground bones.
Many own brand wines are labelled, the COOP, ASDA and Sainsburys all mark thier veggie wines up clearly.
