I prefer white onions for all purposes. One of the most wonderful onions is a cross between a yellow onion and the white granex. Here in Texas, they are called "Noonday" onions because so many are grown near the town of Noonday. They are so sweet you can eat one like an apple.
in burgers I guess. I love red onions on sandwiches!!
you can use white onions for pickling
I use white onions for making salsa, on burgers, on kabobs... on whatever really!
White onions can be used for anything that you would use brown onions for. The small ones can be used for pickling if you want, but they are basically just a different variety of onion. Some of them are a bit sweeter than brown onions.
Brown and white onions are very similar to me. Red onions have a stronger taste.
I use white onions for soup, sometimes.
I use Vidalias (sweet onions), most of the time. I don't like onions in salads, except for green onions.
But white onions can be used in most cooking-burgers, stews, soups, etc..
most onions are interchangeable, some are more sweet and some are quite strong flavored but most get more mild as you cook them, if you are making something with raw onions use the sweeter ones ... the hard part is usually peeling and cutting the strong ones :((
