Here are some friends with simlar question as we.And I have this question for many days, anyone help us?
Kitty said: Yes.Why do vegetarians consume meat substitutes?-I try seach this on internet but no results found.Maybe this is a stupid question.
Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(Why do vegetarians consume meat substitutes?),it will help you,my kids.
For example this whole quorn business of fake burgers, sausages and mincemeat e.t.c.
If you choose not to consume the beautiful thing that is meat then forget about it altogether, surely you veggies are only admitting that you miss meat
Answer:
I concur with your observations. I personally think that denying themselves meat makes them feel that they are superior to carnivores. Perhaps it's the whole elitist mentality that they are really in love with. Why deny yourself such innocent pleasure as veal or filet mignon ,fois gras or a juicy hamburger?
People give up meat for different reasons--could be for health benefits, less fat, things like that. Sometimes they miss the taste of meat, and these substitutes are great for that!
From my POV, I never liked them very much when I was a veg, but I did miss bacon! (although I never found a good enough substitute).
They still need sources of protein, and soy burgers and the like are one way of getting it. Besides, they don't object to the taste, most object to the idea of killing other creatures to feed themselves, when there are other alternatives. Using soy protein is one of those alternatives.
It is an easy and tasty way to get enough protein in the diet.
I'm a vegetarian but I don't do those substitutes. Anyhow, at leat by eating meat substitute, they're saving a life of an innocent animal. Better that eating flesh of dead animals!
i eat the fake meat products because they are a fairly cheap good source of protien......
Cliche. Needs more frothing and capslock, maybe some ASCII of a dead cow or something.
On the troll scale: 2/10. Come on, you can do better than that!
i'm vegetarian and i don't eat fake meat products. but i think there are many reasons why other people do. some probably do because a lot of Americans like to label people who don't eat meat as crazy political activists marching around the street (this simply isn't true) so by eating fake meat they aren't subjected to those stereotypes as much. some want the protein and other nutrition, some are still trying to transition into vegetarianism, others i guess just like the taste.
Why shouldn't they...is there a law against?
A few vegetarians miss the flavour of meat, but want to have the taste without involving the death of an animal. Textured soy "meats" are also high in protein.
Because Quorn is good..that why! Yes..it's made in the same shape as some meat is cut but they do not resemble any animal I have ever seen. Is a breaded cutlet some sort of farm animal?
What is your point for posting this question anyway? Trying to stir up trouble or are you trying to justify your taste for rotting flesh?
I agree.
I like Veggie Burgers & Black Bean Burgers but they are not trying to taste like meat.
I don't like the taste of meat, so I don't miss it at all! But I do miss having something to put on a bun and pile tomato, onion, sprouts, etc on top of.
So I eat veggie burgers, but I try to avoid the ones that are attempting to taste like meat. I LOVE Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers - no dead animal taste at all - no resemblance except size, shape and general appearance. I can pile all the toppings I want on the black bean burger, get a good serving of protein, and not have to eat something that I find disgusting. Where is the problem with that?
I don't eat fake chicken because it tastes much too much like a dead bird!
Just because someone is a vegetarian doesn't mean that they don't like the taste of meat. They could refuse to eat meat because they object to the idea of eating an animal, but it doesn't mean that they wouldn't eat fake meat. Fake meat is made out of vegetable protein so it's not going to do any damage.
In any case I don't like fake meat.
It's stringy and...yeah.
Reminds me too much of meat anyway and I got totally turned off eating meat after watching a sheep being killed.
i eat soy bacon and soy sausages.........because i quit eating meat due to my love of animals, not because i didn't like meat as a food. i gave up many foods that i loved because of their animal-sources, but now there are soy products that taste good without compromising my beliefs, so i eat them with a clear conscience.
