This is what Wikipedia has to say about it. (See site for more info.)
"Sea salt, a salt obtained by evaporating seawater, is used in cooking and in such products as cosmetics. Its mineral content gives it a different taste from table salt, which is mostly sodium chloride and made from either sea or rock salt (halite), a mineral that is mined. Table salt may contain anticaking agents and additives such as the dietary supplement iodides. Areas that produce specialized sea salt include the Cayman Islands, France, Ireland, Sicily and Apulia in Italy, and Maine and Cape Cod in the United States. Generally more expensive than table salt, it is commonly used in premium potato chips.
"Health:
"Sea salt such as Cayman Sea Salt is considered by some to be a healthier alternative to table salt, since it lacks artificial chemicals used in processing. Despite the iodine content of seawater, however, sea salt typically does not contain as much of the essential nutrient iodine as does iodized table salt. However, iodized sea salt is available. Diets with little seafood (e.g., ocean fish and shellfish) should include some source of iodine, and this is customarily supplied via iodized salt.
"Non-iodized sea salt is commonly advised as a healing rinse for fresh body piercings when diluted in water."
Other Answers:
Sea Salt is self explanatory. Its salt that has been condensed from sea water. As for being "good" for you... its still sodium but it has been naturally purified. Its is tastier and seems to me you need less so maybe thats a plus
thats where salt comes from. Sea salt is excellant for body piercings, including tongue rings, mix 1 teaspoon to 1 cup of water, it makes them heal a lot quicker and disinfects them. For tongue rings rinse after eating, drinking and smoking. For body piercings soak for about 1 minute.
Sea salt is good for you because of the natural iodine content. You can get it in any gourmet food store.
It is what you think it is...salt from the sea. Many people (myself included) believe it has more flavor than regular table salt. The granules tend to be a bit more coarse than regular iodized salt. I also love kosher salt.
Most supermarkets now carry sea salt crystals. You should be able to find it in the same aisle as table salt. If not, try the gourmet section. You can also get it online, but it's a waste of money to pay for shipping now that it's so common.
I heard that there is several kinds of sea salts, some is good and some is bad. I'm eating the normal table salt right now, it's the cheapest even if it isn't good for me. In addition to the other answers, one thing I also noticed is that when using sea salt on meat, it tenderizes the meat whereas regular salt does not.
yes sea salt is taste for curry, its good but must not use more dangerous for bones
its generaly organic, and it does not have any added minerals, like in normal table salt but that does not mean its good for you, there is a limit to the amount you should have daily.
You can Get some good sea salt at most cooking stores, and many specialty shops, and even some grocery stores.
oh and generaly you add it when you are finished cooking, unless using it for a rub Sea salt comes from the sea but it is still not good for you because of the sodium content.
It is OK as long as you do not have too much, just like other salts. It does taste better! It has more minerals than table salt, which is more processed.
