Answers:
First let me say that California sparkling wine is my favorite drink. All champagne tastes different, even different years of the same wine taste different. Here's the thing, it's what YOU like that counts. I had a $200+ 1993 Bollinger which is supposed to be one of the best. I didn't like it, my husband didn't like it, my mom didn't like it, my brother and his wife didn't like it. The wine wasn't spoiled or anything, just no one liked it. So, what we learned is that really expensive wine is not necessarily good to drink. Also, I've never had any type of French wine that I like, so I've never wasted my money on Cristal or Dom. Buy domestic, I recommend J Schram from Schramsberg Winery. They were the first domestic sparkling wine served in the White House. I also recommend Roederer Estate Anderson Valley which is the Amercian house of the makers of Cristal. Mumm Napa Valley's DVX is fabulous. Good luck with the search.
Other Answers:
Yes. . . and No!
Not only have I had Cristal but I've also had Cristal Rosé, but be forewarned, I have certain reservations:
As a waiter/captain in fancy restaurants I could taste fine wines. With the diner's permission, of course! But I prefer red wines to whites. I prefer reds to champagnes. I just love tequilas (a?ejo preferably) and IPA beer. Just so you know my tastes:
It's bullshit. The difference between $375 Cristal Rosé and $275 Dom Pergnon, to me, is negligible. Loverly wines though!. The difference between French champagnes and premium California Sparkling wines? , , Ditto! Maybe it's just me, but is, like, a $300+ difference in price worth it? Is the Cristal four times 'better' than the $75? But, maybe it's just me. Yes it a great champage
better then most It all tastes like Lambrini to me! I would rather have a fantastically made cocktail anyday, You can go on holiday for the price of most champagnes these days!
