Hey has anyone ever heard of anyone cooking lasagna with liqour or port or anything like that? I am eating a co workers lasagna at a business luncheon and I don't want to ask her in front of everyone. I can't have alcohol, so I am not eating it yet! It just really tastes as though there is something in it... Ack!

Answers:
Red wine or cooking sherry are often used in Italian cooking. If you can't have liquor, it certainly won't offend her to ask if there is any in the lasagna.

Other Answers:
You don't have to eat if its disgusting.
Say you are allergic to red sauce or tomatoes, or to white flour , whatever. Just don't eat!

Uh, I've heard of lasagna made with some vodka in the sauce. But, whenever alcohol is used in cooking, the alcohol itself is burned off, so depending on why you can't have it, you might be safe. Like if you were allergic to the other ingredients, like hops or grain in it, you would have to stay away, but if you're a recovering alcoholic, or you can't have the depressive effects of alcohol, you'll be fine. When you cook with liquor, it is just for the flavoring. The alcohol is cooked out by evaporation.

They might have used a little wine in the sauce. The alcohol will have burned off during the cooking process though, so it should be safe for you from an allergy standpoint.

However - If it tastes gross, don't eat it! Tell her you have a stomach ache, heartburn or something. Just be polite. :)

Just go ahead, eat it.
