If I have one drink, I always end up having ten. I work hard, and it seems all my spare time is spent in bars and nightclubs.
I never have time for anything else. How can I cut down on my drinking, without going totally teatotal?

Answers:
Are you trying to meet someone in the nightclub? Join a gym or get an excercise machine. Once you start getting in better shape, you will be addicted to working out, and you will probably meet a companion. I used to start drinking the moment I hit the couch, but now I work out, eat dinner, then walk for 30 minutes. By time I hit the couch, it's 8:30 or so. My alcohol intake is down by half of what it used to be.

Other Answers:
It seems u have a problem, go to AA or some other program, its easier to stop when u have support.

My dear you are in denial. You have a drinking problem that just cutting down is not going to fix. You will never be able to cut down and KEEP it that way. Alcoholics think if they can give it up for a few days or a week, they aren't an alcoholic. Or if they can "just cut down". You are an alcoholic and only AA is going to be able to help you. Best of luck. At all times, be certain that there is not any single thing unhealthy.

www.alcoholicsanonymous.org and the yahoo link to alcoholics anonymous near you. If you think you have a problem this would be the place to find out. Only you can make the final decision but it sounds like you have a problem. It also sounds like you have a desire to not have your life as a slave to alcohol. You are not alone, anymore.

Go to a morgue and watch an autopsy being performed on someone who has died of liver failure brought on by cirrhosis due to drinking,.then go and visit the dead persons family and see how much that death has affected them.then visit their friends too.see if you can get a measure of the depth of how much it has hurt them.

My good friend died of this last year and that pain has been unbearable..UNBEARABLE...
(she lived in the USA and I'm in the UK, by the time we found out about her drinking, it was too late to help her...she was 48 when she died)

start doing meth and you wont want to drink as much Join AA.

Quit breathing -- that's a sure cure

It doesn't sound to me like you have a drinking problem, more that you have just got used to having only one way to unwind. This could in future lead to you needing AA but for the time being try going to different bars and clubs but drinking non-alcoholic drinks some nights and see if you can enjoy yourself. If that doesn't work for you make time for something else. You seem to be admitting defeat a little too easily, sit down and figure out something you want to do: take up a sport, learn a skill, whatever, become a pilot or a porn star if you really want. On second thoughts you can probably take those last two off the list if you keep the booze as your best friend.

get a girlfriend For every drink you have, keep a glass of bitters and soda (or plain water) going with it. Then, take a swallow of the water for every swallow of alcohol you take. This will at least prolong the life of the alcoholic drink you have, plus it will help to keep the body hydrated (alcohol dries you out) which will leave you less hung over the next day. And don't forget to take a good multi-vitamin the morning after as well. Remember it's all about having good drinking habits!
