if you're new to drinking, go with jack & coke : half jack daniels, half coca cola. most new drinkers love it. But honestly, most new drinkers will try anything, so when you go to parties, try to sample everyone's drink - most people are totally open to sampling of drinks (to friends).
if you want to save cash, then carry some vodka in the back of your car trunk, and take a shot with your friends before you hit the bars - that way you'll spend less on SIX DOLLAR drinks!!!! Try Kamikazis!!! (Oh, btw, go to a bookstore and buy one of those little laminated "cheat sheets" bar tender guide - it lists all of the most popular drinks on one sheet of paper, laminated. Also, ask bar tenders - they will tell you whats up. My personal fav is Mamosa (OJ and champaign) after "prepping" with Kamikazis.

Avoid rum and cokes, because bartenders find it to be a clear signal of being under aged... i would go with vodka tonics or red bull and vodka

If you like the sweet alcohol drinks, try a green apple martini, baileys mud slide, or a sunset passion colada. they're really YUMMY!

A Mind-Eraser. They're made with Kahlua, Amaretto, Absolut vodka and a shot of Sprite in a rocks glass. You're supposed to drink it without stirring, but I add a little ice and stir it anyway. I'm such a rebel.
Vodka with icy water is good .. but be careful you are new at drinking .. don't drink too much ... you will lose the control. :)
