I know someone who is going to die any day because she drank herself to death. I struggle with this because a year ago I tried to get her help and no one was willing to help. I called every treatment place where we live and no one would take her. At the time her liver was inlarged and she had fluid in her stomach which were the begining signs of chirrhosis. She knew she shouldn't drink yet she kept doing it. So would you consider this suicide? And why wouldn't she stop? It's breaking my heart. I'm so tired of seeing people die.

People who are addicts, think of themselves as better off dead. They know that they are so far into their addiction, that they will never get out. I believe, that yes, it is a form of a slow, but intentional suicide to some extent. Most addicts are suffering from an undiagnosed mental disorders or depression, which is a chemical imbalance in the brain. If this is the case for your friend then it is very sad that treatment centers turned her away. I'm not sure if it was because she doesn't have medical insurance, because she was unwilling to cooperate with the treatment plan, or because she was so far into the addiction that they felt that she was beyond treatment, either ways, they were wrong. If she was unwilling, then they wouldn't be able to keep her there, but they should have explained to her what her behavior was going to lead to in the long run, and that would be death. I do not believe that treatment centers in my state would have rejected her, and it is too bad that she waited so long to seek treatment. All you can do for her now, is show her compassion and love and be with her in her last days. It's a sad world that we live in, it really is. Good luck to both of you.

addictions are brutal at times.
Suicide implies an intent to die, don't you think? I don't think that was the intent for this person you spoke of.
Alcoholism is a disease. She cannot control herself without receiving proper treatment and support. But first and foremost she has to not want to drink anymore. There is a difference between knowing you shouldn't do something and actually not wanting to do it. Watch Leaving Las Vegas staring Nicholas Cage. It's story similar to your question where a guy tries to commit suicide going on a massive Vegas bender. WOW! I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I, also drink daily, and am NOT trying to kill myself. It simply is something that is (drink) part of my day to day routine. Is this a parent? If so, or not, BUTT OUT. Worry about yourself. Sorry.
that's not suicide 3 of my best friends killed them self #1 hung them self #2 shot them self #3 was test driving a BMW Z3 coupe drove off a cliff he died in his favorite car.
No its not considered suicide. Would you consider someone who is a chain smoker suicidal? Nope. When you drink like that is a sickness, an addiction. You have a good heart.
I wouldnt consider it suicide. Addictions are terrible things, thats why she wouldnt have stopped drinking even when it was doing so much damage to her. Im getting the impression that you are blaming yourself for this. Please dont, because if you do, it will eat away at you for the rest of your life. You did all you could, theres only so much you could have done, people need to learn to help themselves. I know it sounds harsh, but some people can be beyond help too. I know it seems like a prolonged form of suicide, but death isnt the ultimate goal with addictions. People are doing it to get the high it gives them. I think it may also help you to talk to someone like a councellor about the situation so you can deal with it. Not only that, councellors (of course) have plenty of expierience of people with addiction problems - perhaps talking to someone about it will help you understand that you are not to blame for this. yes, you know drinking too much is bad for you
