Kitty said: Yes.Started AA, and I'm almost deaf, & couldn't hear anything, & everyone sm-I try seach this on internet but no results found.Maybe this is a stupid question.
Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(Started AA, and I'm almost deaf, & couldn't hear anything, & everyone sm),it will help you,my kids.
The people were really nice, and friendly and welcomed me, but, all they talked about was how they wanted to die and such, and I know I'm an alcoholic, and my therapist told me that I get enough with him, but, I want to get out and meet people, but, the smoking, which I smoke too, but, it really bothered my allergies/sinuses and eyes, and today I feel like I had a drunk night, but, what do people that can't hear do, I know I can pick another group where there isn't smoking, but, it's bigger and won't be able to hear, any suggestions?
Answer:
Hey there! I am so glad that you made it to that first meeting! That's wonderful!
I've been to many meetings and they've all been strictly non-smoking.
Give that other meeting you know of a try. If it's large enough, chances are that it breaks into smaller groups after the pre-amble. Make sure that you get there early enough so that you can get a front seat and personally meet people one on one. Let them know that would be second meeting and that you know you are alcoholic, so they know what phase you are at.
Also, the people at this meeting would be able to tell you of other meetings that might benefit you more.
But defenetly get yourself to other meetings. Just try them out and get a temporary sponsor ASAP(!)
A temporary sponsor would help you out with getting to meetings and familiaring you with the program.
I am really happy for you for making it to your very first meeting! This is really an amazing step that you've taken!
Keep going to meetings and stay away from that first drink.
You are more than welcomed to e-mail me about any questions that you have!
Take care of yourself
that is really surprising. Most 12-step meetings I ever attended were strictly non-smoking.
The other alternative is to join an online AA group/forum. Just google "aa forum" "aa group". Yahoo groups has many, even local ones. You can do a search on http://groups.yahoo.com and type in "aa your_town_name" or "aa state". You can just browse online and find the one that fits your preferences. It's also a great way to develop online support and friendships via email.
You should look around for other groups, talk with your sponsor about this, let other members know you have a hearing impairment , most will try to be sure that they speak in a louder tone. Maybe you should think about a new therapist if yours IS discouraging you from going to meetings. Please don't stop going to meetings just continue to look for one that is more suited to you. Good luck in all you do, hold on to your sobriety.
sit up front try a few different groups maybe try going to more than one group each week i know at first people go to groups 7 days a week u'll find one u like maybe in general speak with a doctor to address the hearing problem as well but shop around for a good group(s)
