yes very good idea... even better if you film it and post it on www.youtube.com and post it under "been the dentist and watch me drink". you owe it too us all for answering your question, this we demand as our payment.
go forth a dribble

always
Watch you dont dribble or spill its not a good look. Not drinking.Just wash you mouth using drink.
If your mouths really numb you might want to use a straw otherwise you'll dribble everywhere!
It's not a good idea. It will wear off and the only cure is time. If it's annoying you then go to sleep :)its great for the pain but make sure your antibiotics are booze friendly, if you are not on meds - drink on Use a straw
I hate the dentist!!! But i'll have a drink 4 u!!!
yup, beer, lots of it, try HeinekenUse a straw unless you want to get it down you. Don't eat until the feeling returns in your lip as you wind up biting your lip REALLY badly and it REALLY REALLY hurts (personal experience here!)! As long as you use a straw.
Yes, Vodka through a straw, then you won't notice the pain when the numbness wears off!
when is it never?A straw is handy when you drink anything after visiting the dentist - that way you don't drible or spill anything. Start of with liquid that is room temperature, then move onto hot and cold things - like soup/tea/coffee/milk - later on. in moderation, if you pulled a tooth and he gave you condone for the pain or other medication the inhibitor and co-inhibitors from the mix can cause cardiac arrest.`

If you mean is it ok to drink non-alcoholic drinks, yes it is. Just be prepared to drool, or miss your mouth a few times.
Avoid hot liquids like coffee, or hot tea until you can fully feel your mouth (to avoid burning it without knowing it while numb).
If you meant, is it ok to drink something with alcohol in it; no it is not. Not if you had a tooth pulled out (removed), or any gum work.
The acohol thins your blood, and will make it harder for your wound to clot. That can lead to dry socket, which is very painful. It can lead to it by not letting a good 'thick' plug/scab form up in the hole where the tooth was.
WARNING NOTE ABOUT STRAWS & CIGARETTES:
Drinking through a straw is a huge no-no,
as is smoking after a tooth is pulled,
or a root canal is done.
The vaccum (suction) you create when dragging on the straw or cigarette can dislodge the filling, or the blood clot which you need! When you suck the blood clot out, you can get dry socket, which is extremely painful. The nicotene also lowers your immune system, and does other things which make it slower to heal.
Keep in mind that you don't know how the alcohol and the dentist's numbing agent (shot) or pain pills might interact with each other. It could easily lead to vomiting, nausea, seizures, the runs; or something worse like a rare allergic reaction, stroke, heart attack, or ultimately death.
Over all, I'd avoid any drinking of beer, wine, or any alcohol for 24 - 48 hours after the dental work. No smoking for 24 hours to 3 days if you had a tooth pulled either (leads to dry socket). If you must smoke, cram guaze over the hole so you don't suck the blood clot out at least. (same with a straw!)
Be careful to not swallow the guaze on accident.
You should refrain from drinking hot drinks until you get the feeling back, otherwise you may burn your mouth. you should be eating soup and have a web cam on .that would be pretty funny to watch
