I want to try a Kir Royale and want to know what I'm in for and if I should ask for anything particular....Like a lemon peel or on the rocks
Answer:
Creme de Casis is a sweet red black currant liqueur. It is used on the Kir Royale which is just champagne and creme de casis on a 5 to 1 ratio and you dont add anything to it. If its the regular Kir then you get a mix of 6oz dry white wine, 1 tbsp of creme de cassis, some crushed ice and a twisted lemon or lime peel. I personally don't like champagne so I do sometimes prepare myself a Kir Martini with Gin, triple sec or dry vermouth, creme de casis and a lime
Crème de Cassis is a blood-red, sweet, blackcurrant-flavored liqueur, and is an ingredient of Kir, an apéritif. The modern version of the drink first appeared in the Burgundy region in 1841, displacing "Ratafia de Cassis" from prior centuries. It is made from blackcurrants crushed into refined alcohol, with sugar subsequently added. While Crème de Cassis is a specialty of Burgundy it is made in other cities of France, as well as in Luxembourg and Quebec.
Creme de Casis is a red, sweet liquor, made out of the Casis berry. It's delicious. Kir is the cocktail made with white wine and a shot of Creme de Casis. Its variation with champagne is the Kir Royal. You should not ask for ice or lemon peel or anything at all.
You're in for a great cocktail, you will enjoy it very much. The sweetness of the Creme de Casis will kill the tartness of the wine or champagne but will still be very refreshing and nice.

blackcurrent. tis yummy!
Think of Ribeana with an edge, if your not into the cost of 20 pounds in the UK or $30 dollars in either the US or Canada, it is a good substitute, or mix a cup of Ribenea syrup with some good french or other brandy, that would make a decent and similar product, I was a chef in Canada for 20 years and work for some frugal owners and got the idea after tasting a minature of Creme de Cassis.
Kir Royale is nice , but can be done with any sparkling wine, German , French or American Champange. Mixed with vodka, cassis, lemon bar mix or lemonade and orange liquer, we had it on one bar menu and called it a "Virgin Kiss".
