Answers:
have to differentiate between the working guy having a pint and the better dressed person, obviously
the 2p or whatever extra puts them off

also 'Ladies' had to be sheilded from the coarse language

I thought saloons were just old fashined bars..?

Of course it is ok for different bars to have different prices. It is a free world! You just can't sell it for under your cost I think. Just around town there are places that will charge you as little as $3.50 for a shot, and other places that charge twice that.
I have a local pub which has 2 seperate bars, one where the 'locals' or 'regulars' go and one where the not so regulars and holiday makers go. The locals bar is cheaper than the other one but apparently it is because the more expensive one is a 'restaurant'. Whatever!!
