Be warned - there are LOTS of fake Cuban cigars in Mexico.
Do a little research on how to spot a fake.
Now my favorites: Partagas Sabrosso, Don Miguel (bright green tube)
I usually brought cigars back in the tubes rather than in boxes. I figure that if customs found the cigars in my carry-on bag - then the ones in my suitcase would make it back OK.
Also, if they do take your cigars, get a writ of seizure. If you paid via credit card - then dispute that charge and send in that paper from customs.
Romeo y Julietta - fantastic, though Cohiba's are very nice also. I visited Cuba in 2000, and loved it! (I'm not American) The cigars are so cheap to buy there on the black market! Just outrageous that you can't buy them in the States!
I liked the Bolivar and the Davidoff. they both get high marks from Cigar Aficionado. Be careful not to get suckered into buying counterfit cigars....I had a friend buy a box of what he thought were Cohibas, I'd call them worse than a Swisher!!
I love Cohibas and Romeo & Julietas. They are on the milder side.If you like a stronger smoke try Montecristo or Punch. And yes, as one of the answerers pointed out, watch out for counterfeits. Do your homework first. Study the labels. I think that there are several websites you can look at.
Be very careful of counterfeits they are everywhere. My personal favorite is the partagas serie D number 4. I was smoking them left and right when I was in Canada, Romeo y Julieta are a good choice also.
I like Montecristos, If you buy them in Canada some cigar shops will remove the Cuban bands and replace them with Jamaican cigar bands so you can bring them back to the states. I don't know ,but maybe they will do the same thing in Mexico
