I have heard alcoholic drinks described as empty calories. Of course we have all heard of the "beer belly." What about a wine belly? Can frequent consumption of wine cause you to gain as much weight as beer, or are they both myths?

Answers:
if you drink wine, you can get buzzed and happy faster than if you drink the same amount of beer. plus wine supposedly has fewer calories than beer. so if you do the math, wine seems like the lesser caloric evil. carbs must fit into the equation somehow, too. i once had a friend on the atkins diet, and she was allowed to drink one glass of white (not red) wine, if that helps.

Other Answers:
As both a wine drinker and a beer drinker, I have to say that the amount you consume has more to do with gaining a "belly" than the particular spirit you are consuming. If you are consuming in moderation however, wine does have fewer calories than beer, so it is the better bet.

Food Count Book of Calories; personal experience with wine and beer bellies at different times. ;)

there all myths it's your metabolism that decides it yep, assuming the same person drank the same amount of both, wine is less; but typically wine drinks consume less oz. then beer drinks (or maybe it's just me when I drink).

i am a weight watcher and have been for 4 years.

beer = 3pts and 1/2c wine = 3

sooooo, they are equal in points which means that there calories and fat contact are virtually the same as one point generally = 50 calories.i think i boils down to beer belly sounds funny...there is nothing clever for a wine belly

it all comes down to a simple eqaution...between food combined with either alcohol, more in than exerted out will cause you to gain.
