I wasn't aware that Australia was even in the running for any of the "best" wines "in the world." Although there are a few decent wines that come from Australia, they wouldn't be my personal choice as any of the "best".
My personal choice would be a France, Italy or something from the Napa Valley.
Australia has been very succesful recently in exporting wine by producing clean fruit forward reliable wines, attractively packaged at good priced, and leaders in their particular market.
Penfolds Grange, Henschkes Hill of Grace and one or two others are acknowledged as belonging as among the worlds best fines wines.
Glad you like Oz wines - but I think your statement is arguable at best.

Well accept Grange they are not. The best they want to copy are still far ahead. I cannot imagine anyone who knows anything about wine saying that Australian wine is the best in the world. I was always under the impression that France had the best wine, followed by Italy, but I guess that depends what kind of wine you like. California is not too shabby either.
there really is no set wine in the world. most of which however do come from mediteranean areas like italy for example. australia ia also one of thebetter places. it depends of course on the grapes and the region they are grown in. so really the best wines are all a matter of your own taste.
