Need good ideas for 3 whites, 3 reds at very reasonable prices. Looking for wines that are good examples of the grapes they come from so I can give beginning tasters a general flavor profile that they can use as a cheat sheet in trying to identify.
Was thinking of a Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Zinfandel or Sangiovese for the reds. Viognier, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay for whites.
Thoughts, suggestions, etc... very welcome!

Oregon is a fabulous area for Pinot Noir right now, so I would recommend it highly. (Big Fire is a good one)
Cabernet Sav - I would stick with a hearty full bodied California Cab such as Maybe a Schuge, or something like Geyser Peak.
A great Zinfandel is called 7 deadly zins - california i believe, and The Ravenswood Zinfandel is easy to find and affordable.
Concerning White Wines, I completely agree with serving a chardonnay, and I would Suggest the Edna Valley. It has a buttery smooth finish and is easy to drink. I'm not sure I would run wild with a Viognier or a Pinot Gris.
I would Recommend a South African Sauvingnon Blanc (Robertson is excellent and cheap)
and I would also do a simple ITALIAN Pinot Grigio - such as Santa Margarheta or Ecco Domoni - both italian and enexpensive.
