i just wanted to know how can learn about being a wine taster? I live in New York and i want to know what wines go with what foods and all the different types of wines and stuff like that.
Answers:
Join a wine tasting group, join in wine discussion boards on the web, such as http://www.wineloverspage.com/forum/village/index.php .
Buy wine and have it with dinner at home. Find out for yourself what wines make good matches with what foods, as nothing is written in concrete and too many people follow old matching suggestions as though they were gospel without every testing it.
And enjoy -- its wine! It's fun, it's enjoyable, it's life. There is nothing you can get wrong, it is all down to personal tastes.
Other Answers:
see if there are any wine tasting courses in like college. I know that some resturants they do offer clases so look them up.
start going to wine tastings. maybe pick up a copy of that Wine Connoisseur magazine. they can probably give you info on wine itself as well as give you info on where you can go to local wine tastings in NY.
There should be a lot of wine tasting areas in NY...
I can teach you the little i know.. which is the difference between full, med, and light bodied wine... Compare it to a glass of milk.. its about how thick the residue on the glass is.. Full is compared to Whole milk.. Med,, compared to half and half.. and light is compared to 2percent milk.. Next time your drinking milk.. notice the thickness by how long it stays on the glass after sipped it.. Dry wine, has less sugar then a Sweet wine.. (obviously)..
You should really find a wine tasting vineyard in your area, or near your area.. that way you can taste the differences in wine..
Go & smash grapes
go to real wine stores(not like the supermarket). they usually sell the tickets to the wine tastings. and the owners or workers are usually pretty on top of things when it comes to, ya know, wine.
