i'm a girl who weighs 110ish and i dont drink very often. I had a couple shots, 4 of bacardi citrus rum and 1 of Sauza tequila. The bacardi rum was 35% alcohol by volume adn the tequila was 40%. My friend had the same as me but weighs more than me and she got drunk. I have noticed that in the past it is pretty hard for me to feel the effects of hard alcohol. Why is that? Is there such a thing as not being able to get drunk from hard drinks? I think that's pretty unlikely, but what is going on?

Some people get buzzed with just one drink. It just depends on your body and the way it accepts alcohol.
Try a different bar..they may be watering down the good stuff.

you just have a tolerancy for it. im the same way. i can drink half a bottle of 40% and not be drunk and i barely ever drink too
YOU WERE PROBALLY DOING DRUGS AT THE SAME TIME, OR JUST TOO DRUNK TO REALIZE YOU WERE DRUNK.

Before I went into rehab I could drink 12 12 oz cans of beer plus 3 22 ounce beers and a couple of more beers at the bar and it wasn't even 12 noon.
I've put away a quart of vodka and still wanted more.
I don't drink anymore ...since 1994.
I used to march in THE MISERY PARADE..
The Misery Parade is those people you see circling the block waiting for the bar or package store to open at 6 in the morning.
You can drink girl. Some people regardless of size can't.
Maybe you had a lot of food in you tummy before you started drinking?
I would also ask your friends if you seemed drunk. Sometimes when people drink, they don't realize the change in their behavior. It is hard to imagine that you felt no effects from that many shots.
I tended bar for 15years and that should of gotten you a good buzz,it is true some people can handle it better,but then of course 40% is not much ,that like drinking a flavored liquere,
try it with a 86% liquore like VO,or a rum 101prove rum.
No there is no such thing as NOT being able to get drunk on hard liquore ,I use to have good days and bad days some times it took just three shots and other times it went on all night,eating a good meal first helps!!

Well, how far apart were the shots? Based on my experience, it's not really how much you drink, rather how fast you drink it. Five isn't a whole lot to begin with. You probably could have gotten a decent buzz from it. But 5 shots within a small amount of time has a much stronger afffect than when spread through a longer time.
Another thing that has to do with it is food. If you ate a lot of food at the party, it could help hold your liquor back.
Also, did you only drink alcohol? Drinking non-alcoholic beverages in between can affect this too.
if you took any speed(diet pills, or narcotics) you will stay sober longer. Or you may have had a large dinner with bread and that may have absorbed much of the alcohol you consumed that night! Red wine has a higher alcohol content then most so maybe try a nice a cabronet savionon next time you go out.

You have a high tolerance to alcohol. It does not have to do with your weight. My wife was the same way until after she had her baby, our daughter.
You have to be careful though, one day you could wake up not knowing what you did the night before.
