depends what you want to pay Merlot. Try a Rioja... or Barefoot. This last is from California. Enjoy!
rule of thumb; white wines go great with chicken and seafood. red wines are usually paired with pork and steak. blushes are good with chicken, seafood, and salad.
not too familiar with wine? doesnt matter, its all about personal choice. start off with a merlot. those are usually softer, medium bodied & mildly sweet.
There are some great Spanish wines I think might fit the bill here for taste and price. For instance, Tres Picos or Borsao are nice reds at good prices.
