Answers:
Sam Adams Utopias - the world record holder for strongest beer is 25% alcohol i.e. 50 proof. It may be the 51 proof you refer to. It is something like a triple bock, except more potent. It is illegal in most of the United States. In Europe, one can routinely get "triple" beers which can be around 10%.

Other Answers:
51 proof beer would be 102% alcohol, pretty sure it doesn't exist.

51 proof? That's close to liquor.. if there's a 51 proof beer, I want to try it.

I hate it when people post about things they know nothing of. Like the person's post above me.. she obviously is a moron. 51 proof is 25.5% alcohol. The percentage is half of the proof, not twice.

51 proof would be about 25% alcohol.
That seems to be in the high 'barley wine' category of beer.

Here's a url showing many beers sorted by % alcohol.

Yeah, I don't know if there IS such a thing as 51 proof beer... and even if there WAS, it wouldn't be in America anyway. I'm pretty sure there's a limit as to the amount of alcohol content in beer sold in the states. I always remember my dad wanting to drink/buy Amstel beer (a beer he'd grown to love in Germany), but could only ever find Amstel Light. One liquor shop owner told him that the above-stated reason is why my dad couldn't find it anywhere here.

ANYway... many states regulate what the alcohol content can be in a beverage that is labeled as "beer"... and that content is usually only around 2.5%, or 6 proof. If it's 3%, in some states it has to be refered to as Ale or Stout or, well you get the point. European beers, like German beers, can go as high as 4%... but you won't find them here, because I think the overall cap on alcohol content for beers/ales is 3.2%.

So, is there a liklihood of finding a 51 proof beer? I HIGHLY doubt it.

Total heresay AND

http://www.csulb.edu/~parayner/Alcohol.html the highest potency in beer I have ever seen is Samual Adams tripple bock

I once tried the double bock and that was pretty potent. Got me drunk, but have never found the tripple bock. Im not sure of the % anymore but check it out and let me know...

IT"LL GET YA DRUNK after a certain amount of alcohol it is no longer considered beer.It would be a malt liquor
