I am a red wine drinker. usually in one sitting, i can drink a 750 ml bottle fo wine alone..is this too much for one night? is this really harmful for the liver at one shot? i usually designate a weekend night for the bottle..i dont drink during the week, but i guess the body really does not know the difference between a monday or a thursday...also, would you consider this binge drinking? i think a 750 ml bottle of wine equals to 5 glasses .

thanks you for your answers...i really appreciate it...

Answers:
Too much alcohol can and will damage the liver, along with causing several other health problems. Now - how you define "too much" is a different story.

Wine usually carries less alcohol than other drinks such as whiskey. People with alcohol abuse problems may find it difficult to quench their "thirst" on wine - thus drink larger quantities of it than of another more potent drink. Managing to do just as much harm to themselves in the end.

5 glasses on one night (no matter the night), could be considered excessive. 1 glass of red wine per day, with your dinner or lunch on the other hand has even been seen as beneficial to the health, especially good for the heart. However, drinking more than that will surely not be beneficial in the long run.

Damage caused by excessive, repetitive drinking can build up over time and prove catastrophic.

In other words, enjoy your wine responsibly.

Sounds like you need a good drinking song. I suggest Jimmy Gilmer and the fireballs, "bottle of wine". An oldie but a goodie :) I would lighten up on the wine a bit...a glass or two a day is actually good for you. Smooth it out a bit over the week and stop getting drunk all the time or you will be a dummy in a few years from frying your brain. And yes, you might hurt your liver too.

That's nothing. I often kick back a 750 ml of whiskey in a few hours. So I think you're ok and you could easily go ahead and bump that 750 to a 1.5L. I wouldn't consider one night a week is too awful bad. It is no different than drinking 5 beers. One glass of wine is equal to a beer. I personally drink 3 liters of wine per week. That equals out to about 2 glasses per day. So enjoy your wine and don't drink and drive.

I need to clarify the last answer
1 Glass of wine is equal to 2-3 cans of beer. The alcohol level in Wine is 10-14%
Beer is 3-5% by volume.
It would be better to have one glass of Red Wine per day than a bottle in one night. Your body will not absorb it as well all at one time.
Red grape skins have a high concentration of anti-Oxidants which are good for you in moderation. winelover ...yes, but a glass of wine is genrally 5-6 oz and a can of beer is 12 oz. So the amount of alcohol of a glass of wine is equivilant to the amount of alchol in a single can of beer ...
